The driver of the Ford, a 34-year-old man from Colorado Springs, was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 25-year-old man from Calhan, was pinned inside his vehicle and sustained serious injuries. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles. The identities of the individuals involved have not been released pending notification of next of kin. As of Sunday evening, no charges had been filed, and the crash remains under investigation by CSP.
In the immediate aftermath of the accident, U.S. Highway 24 was closed in both directions between Stapleton Road and Scott Road to allow for emergency response and investigation. The highway remained closed for several hours before reopening around 5 p.m.
