Man Survives After Pickup Truck Crashes Through Fence and into Niagara Falls Gorge
In a remarkable incident that has captured widespread attention, a 42-year-old man from Niagara Falls, New York, survived a harrowing crash when his pickup truck broke through a fence and plunged into the Niagara Gorge. The event occurred on the evening of April 2, 2025, near Depot Avenue and the Whirlpool Bridge, close to the Aquarium of Niagara.
The Incident
At approximately 6:25 p.m., emergency services responded to a medical call near the Aquarium of Niagara. Upon arrival, they discovered that a 2008 Toyota Tundra had crashed through a fence and descended into the gorge. Astonishingly, the driver managed to exit the vehicle and climb out of the gorge on his own. He was subsequently transported to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries .
Rescue and Investigation
The New York State Park Police, with assistance from the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office, have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not released the driver’s identity, and no other individuals were found in the vicinity of the crash. Efforts to remove the vehicle from the gorge are being coordinated by New York State Parks & Historic Sites .

In another case, an 18-year-old Ontario man survived a 90-foot fall into the Niagara River Gorge in 2003. Rescuers faced challenging conditions, including darkness and mist, to locate and extract the unconscious man from the rocks below .
