2 drivers Dead and 8 passengers injured in head-on collision in Niagara Falls

Police say the collision happened shortly after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Kalar Road and Montrose Road.Niagara Regional Police officers responded to the scene, where investigators say a man driving a gray Chevrolet Equinox northbound on Kalar Road collided head-on with a southbound moving white Jeep Compass driven by a woman, who also had two passengers.Both drivers were transported to hospitals outside the region. Police said the man remains in critical condition, while the woman is in stable condition. The two passengers, identified by police as women aged 63 and 64, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

PollA man is in hospital fighting for his life after being stabbed in St. Catharines on Sunday morning.

Niagara Regional Police said in a news release that officers responded to the area of Niagara Street between Church Street and Welland Avenue around 4:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing. Police didn’t specify whether this location was a home or business.Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to a nearby medical facility for urgent care. Updates on his condition are unknown. Police also have not provided further details on the victim including his age and place of residence.

It is unclear whether the suspect and the victim were known to each other or if this was a targeted incident.

Investigators are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in locating the suspect.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 31-year-old man from St. Catharines, was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect was later seen fleeing the scene on foot.

Police say Morris remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on Saturday via video link with the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse.

Detectives continue to investigate and say additional charges are expected.

The family man was picking up ice for their Christmas Eve celebrations when he decided to buy a Lotto 6/49 ticket that turned out to be worth $100,000.

“I thought I’d maybe won $100, so I asked my wife to double-check the prize amount,” he said of their discovery a few days after Christmas.

“She noticed the comma and said it was $100,000. We were both so shocked and my hands were shaking,” he said while picking up his winnings at the OLG prize centre in Toronto. “I just couldn’t believe it. We even had my mother-in-law review the ticket to be sure.”Wardrop said the family has already made some plans on how to spend the winnings.

“I’ll pay off some bills, invest in a nest egg for the future, and treat my family to a few nice things. My wife will probably plan a family vacation too, where we can enjoy some fun in the sun,” he said.

The Niagara Falls railroad worker said he never thought “something like this would happen to me.”

“It still doesn’t feel real. It’s very exciting and certainly changes things a bit for me. It feels great,” he said.
