Maja Chwalińska won five games in her match against Taylor Townsend . The American dominated the Polish tennis player in almost every aspect. The Roland Garros finalist struggled to cope with her powerful serve and fast play from deep inside the court, as we wrote about in Interia Sport.
A 2-6, 3-6 loss forced Chwalińska to bow out of her US Open debut in the first round. “Taylor was definitely much better and definitely deserved this victory. I made too many mistakes, I played too passively, and Taylor capitalized on that perfectly,” the Pole said after the final game.

And what do the experts have to say? “When someone calmly looked at the draw, they would have thought that Chwalińska was the favorite, but that wasn’t the case in this match. Taylor Townsend is a player who specializes in doubles, but she can also play singles,” Żelisław Żyżyński told WP Sportowe Fakty.
The Canal+Sport commentator emphasized that the American is a very versatile tennis player who primarily benefits from her doubles experience. “I don’t remember a player at this level who would go to the net so often, and this surprised Chwalińska a bit ,” the expert noted.
Townsend’s style of play clearly didn’t suit our representative. “Not everyone will be able to play like that, but this match showed that no one will underestimate Maja and everyone will be looking for a way to beat her (…) Maja needs to count on tournaments where the draw will be in order. She’ll have an opponent with a better style for her. Townsend feels good at the US Open because she’s at home,” he explained.
