Three members of a New Jersey family-of-nine travelling to Niagara Falls Leaves Dead in car accident after they were hit by a 20-year-old ‘drunk driver’

A four-year-old girl was hospitalized and died after an hour due to head injury Richard Sawicki, 20, has been arrested for the devastating crash that took place at 6.30am on Sunday morning when his pickup truck slammed into an SUV carrying nine passengers in Sheldon, New York.

The crash took place at Route 20A and Maxon Road where two women were thrown from the car in the violent smash.
Sawicki, from Lackawanna, has been charged with aggravated vehicular manslaughter, DWI and reckless driving for the deadly collision, according to The Daily News. His driver’s license was also suspended.

He was arraigned on $100,000 bail and is due to appear in court on June 20.

The SUV was traveling west on Route 20A when Sawicki, heading southbound in his pickup truck on Maxon Road, failed to halt at a stop sign and rammed into the SUV.

The women ejected from the car were pronounced dead at the scene. A four-year-old girl was taken by ambulance to Wyoming County Community Hospital and died, succumbing to her head injuries, about an hour later. An adult man, a woman, a 14-year-old, a 10-year-old and two other four-year-olds were also rushed to the hospital in the accident. The man has been released from the hospital.

The woman is being treated at Erie County Medical Center. The others are being treated at Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.

The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of family members.

Wyoming County Sheriff Gregory Rudolph responded to the scene following reports of a ‘crash with multiple ejections and injuries.’

He said all the nine passengers in the SUV were family members headed to Niagara Falls. Sawicki was taken to Erie County Medical Center and was released.

A horde of first responders responded to the scene early Sunday morning.

Rudolph praised emergency workers saying: ‘The response was overwhelming’.

‘Anytime a child is involved, and in this case we had five, it pulls at you. It’s a tragedy,’ he added.

The accident remains under investigation and the sheriff’s office says further charges are expected, according to WKBW.
