Man dies after being found shot in vehicle in Niagara Fall

NRP homicide unit is investigating the shooting of a man inside a vehicle at Carlton Street and Athlone Place.A man has been killed as a result of an early Monday morning shooting in St. Catharines.

At 3:40 a.m., Niagara Regional Police uniform officers were called to the area of Carlton Street and Athlone Place for reports of gunshots.

Officers found a man inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.The homicide unit is investigating. Police had put road closures in the area into effect because of a heavy police presence.As of Monday afternoon there had been no arrests.

The Niagara Regional Police homicide unit is investigating after a man was shot several times while driving a car early Monday in the area of Carlton and Geneva streets in St. Catharines.

A man has been killed as a result of an early Monday morning shooting in St. Catharines.

At 3:40 a.m., Niagara Regional Police uniform officers were called to the area of Carlton Street and Athlone Place for reports of gunshots.

Niagara Regional Police had a heavy presence in the area of Carlton and Geneva streets in St. Catharines Monday as they investigated a fatal shooting.

This is the second death in Niagara this year to be classified as a homicide.

On Jan. 26, police were called to Greater Niagara General Hospital after being alerted about a 72-year-old man who had been brought in with severe injuries from what was suspected of being an assault.

The man, identified as Larry Young, was moved to an out-of-region hospital for specialized care. He later died.

The police investigation determined an assault occurred at 4900 Buckley Ave., in an older adults building known as Buckley Towers. Police arrested the victim’s son, Blair Young, 44, initially charging him with assault and eventually second-degree murder.

NRP also continue to investigate the suspicious death of a St. Catharines woman at a Bethlehem Housing apartment.

At 9:30 a.m. Jan. 9, police went to a Church Street apartment building at Court Street, where they discovered the body of a 67-year-old woman.The NRP’s forensic services unit was called to the apartment.

Police have not announced any charges to date.

In 2024, Niagara had a record 15 homicides.
