Niagara Falls to Fairfield
Niagara University, NY — Fairfield’s men’s tennis team narrowly defeated Niagara 4-3 on Saturday, while the Niagara women fell 7-0 against the Stags in a conference doubleheader.
The Fairfield men secured the crucial doubles point with a clean sweep across both positions. The duo of Sam Hodges and Alex Aguiar claimed a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, while their teammates also won 6-4 at the No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Niagara swept the top three positions with Tanner Bedard, Trevor Masi and Vid Maric all earning victories, but Kostas Kollias and Luca Benaibbouche came back for Fairfield with straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively. Domagoj Stabek clinched the three-set victory for Fairfield at No.6 singles.Despite strong efforts from several Purple Eagles, Fairfield proved formidable. The tandem of Mercedes Velasco and Saloni Tamang came closest in doubles play, pushing their opponents Liliana Malinowski and Anna Neyestani before falling 6-2 at the No. 2 position.
In singles action, Isabel Garcia battled at the No. 3 spot while Tamang showed resilience at No. 4, both forcing third-set tiebreakers, but unfortunately came up short.
